Artificial sweeteners in beverages alter the intestinal response to glucose
According to a small study presented at the Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (Easd), the habitual consumption of artificial sweeteners in dietetic drinks alters the glucose intestinal response and may predispose to the development of type diabetes 2. Richard Young of the University of Adelaide, Australia, explains: “My working group wanted to evaluate whether artificial sweeteners such as sucralose and acesulfame K contained in some” dietary “drinks can alter the absorption of glucose in humans, and if so, whether this fact adversely affects postprandial glycemic control.”
