Extra-virgin olive oil protects brain against Alzheimer’s and preserves memory
The Mediterranean diet, rich in plant foods, is associated with a number of health benefits, including a lower incidence of dementia. Now researchers from all over the world are studying the basic principles of the Mediterranean diet and its benefits. In this paper we point out how Lewis Katz’s School of Medicine researchers at Temple University (LKSOM) identified a specific ingredient that protects against cognitive decline: extra virgin olive oil, an important component of the Mediterranean diet. In a recent online study published in the Annals of Clinical and Neurology Research, researchers demonstrate that the consumption of extra virgin olive oil protects memory and learning capacity and reduces the formation of beta amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary neoplasms in the brain – Classic Markers of Alzheimer’s Disease.
